No. The application experience is the same.

It's no big deal, just be prepared to have to download Intel updates for absolutly everything, took me an evening to update and re-register everything. However......it was well worth it and my Intel C2D 2GHZ eats the PPC for breakfast, heavy G5 sessions are using a fraction of the CPU on Intel.

I have a dual 2.7 G5 and have really been wanting to move to the Mac Pro, but a few small things have been holding me back.

There are a few plugs that I use regularly enough that will not be updated for Intel (MicMod is one).
I have two UAD-1 PCI cards that I would have to swap for PCIe.
I loathe the thought of giving Waves any more of my money in order to update their plugs.
I already have enough headaches with my Native Instruments software.

So, depending on what you're using, you might need to be prepared to leave some stuff behind. I'm not sure that the M-Tron is Intel-compatible.

I thought Magma made an expansion chassis for people in this same predicament...found it:

If you want to upgrade to an intel mac, do you have to pay for the intel version of pro tools? I'm currently running PT LE 7.1 and would like to upgrade to an intel mac from my ppc G4.

Thanks, but have you seen how much it costs? Ouch!

It would be cheaper to just buy two new PCIe UAD cards and feed my old PCI ones to the cats.
