You can not beat a PPA-LD1 for $100.00. It is way underpriced.

I'm curious to know if anyone can offer another opinion on the PPA-LD1?

I have an AKG C 3000B and I think it is a good one for vocals and guitar. Very sensitive. One can hear ants clear their throats with it at quite low noise floor. Should be under 300$. ( But if you were after approximity effect for certain singing style this one won´t give you too much of that I think.)

Depending on how low a budget, and assuming you've already got a Shure sm57 and/or sm58, I'd suggest a Studio Projects B1 at $79. If you can handle $200, consider the Studio Projects C1 and the Rode NT1A. Excellent. There are lots of reputable dealers selling new mics at good prices on Ebay, but you don't get to try them first.

I like a little compression, a little 'verb, maybe some EQ. Of course, for wacky effects, anything goes.

it help to know what you're using it for, but right off the bat I would say that the rode nt1a and the akg c1000s are good all purpose condensors for about $200.

MXL makes mics for less, but they aren't as good and you have the Hyundai factor to worry about.

good luck.

A good mike for a very low budget (around $200 last I checked) is a Rode NT1. I have one and I likes it.
