Default Putting TDM plug-Ins in LE Plug-In Folder?

What happens when you do this? Do they show up as AS plugs? Does it depend on th Plug-In? Can TDM Plug-Ins work in LE?

Oh...How is it that this same question always comes up again and again?

So you really "bought" TDM plug-ins and don't know if you can use them with LE?

I guess you should just try out.

Alot of people "own" TDM rigs as well as 001's. I'm just curious what the compatability is.
Thanks,
Pete

Well, yeah. Sorry.

Some TDM plug-ins would appear as Audiosuite plug-ins when used with LE. Most won't and certainly they are not RTAS compatible.

I maybe wrong, since I don't work at Digi, but the TDM plugins have code that run's on the "Mix Farm" cards that are in the TDM system.

With "Native" plugins, which we all get with PT LE, they have PowerPC or Intel binary code in them which is loaded up and the audio data passed to to do the work.

The TDM plugins have special code written to run on the DSP chips which are on the TDM "Mix Farm" cards. This code almost certainly won't run on your PowerPC chip, but I would imagine that the plugin actually tests for the occurence of the Mix Card and then "downloads" the code to run.

Also the "TDM" stands for (I believe) "Time Domain Multiplexing" which means that the audio data is converted so that it is represented in "Time Domain" rather than "Frequency Domain" (what we see in the audio window) so that the downstream Mix processors can more easily deal with it.

So the TDM plugins won't work.

TDM stands for "Time Division Multiplexing". The data stream in Pro Tools TDM is divided into 256 "slots" and through an ingenious process known as multiplexing, the different plug-ins, mixers etc.. on the DSP cards can draw the correct data that they need from that stream.

Pro Tools uses time domain (amplitude versus time) presentation of audio just like almost any other audio application. Exceptions that come to mind are Melodyne, Audiosculpt and Metasynth that can handle frequency domain information also.

Some "TDM-only" plug-ins do appear as Audiosuite versions on Pro Tools LE, I have tried that. But there really are not many of them.

Zeus,

That's cool. I don't have a TDM, so I was only "surmising". A dangerous thing that early in the morning.

Naynay...Reverb One does not work in Audiosuite.

Basically any TDM plug-in that has an Audiosuite version appearing in a TDM system will do so also in LE.

Most TDM plugs are strictly realtime and only appear as TDM inserts.
