Default What does anybody know about the ASUS A7V8X

Has any one set up a PTLE rig with this board yet"? I'm seriously looking at it for a number of reasons and I wanted to see what anyone thought of it6 I'm thinking an Athlon 2200+ with the ASUS A7V8X Sounds good but are there ant caveats?

the difference in performance between the KT333 and KT400 chipset seems to be minimal. the ASUS board is the most consistent overall performer with this chipset but the minimal difference does come at a cost and benchmarks often don't relate to real world computing power.

i'm a long time asus advocate but i've built systems using gigabyte boards lately because they are generally $100 (australian) cheaper than asus and the performance with protools is identical.

from a different perspective, the asus board does offer many features such as serial ATA, RAID controller, Firewire, USB 2 and gigabit LAN so i'd probably choose it over anything else based on it's feature set alone.

The MSI KT4 Ultra-FISR board is more stable than the Asus and actually benches faster.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">where did you find this information? as a general rule, the benchmarks i've seen rank it slightly below the asus board.

i ask because i'm always interested in a second opinion.

Combo you described works fine for me. 32+4 daveC with no tweaks. Can't speak to the performance of anything else.
