THanks agin for bringing up that option it totally sliped my mind.
The Elven Rack Expansion Pack just added some new amps geared more towards heavy sounds and they sound great. The original 11R amps are more of you meat and potatoes studio workhorses rather than blazing metal amps. Just something to keep in mind as you look at older 11R videos.

Yes I agree the ERXP has great new sounds, but the OP wants the Mesa sound, and the original firmware have not one but three mesa models/channels, plus some marshals and the slo-100 that can cover some metal grounds, so I think the core eleven could handle a lot of metal sounds without the ERXP.

But the ERXP rocks!!!!

Ah another question. On the 11r it can replace a bass amp head too correct? Right now I use a Hartke LH1000. If you guys think it is better than that ill go right on ahead and sell that to get some extra cash to upgrade other things after i get an 11r wich looks like the head i will be getting.

the ERXP has two bass amps models, and the ER has one (mostly used as a guitar amp)

To clarify, the 11R has a tweed Bassman model. Not horrible by any means but no SVT. The difference between the two in my opinion is HUGE. If you want to replace a bass amp I would strongly suggest the ERXP.

I'm in love with the Bogner and the Matchless. Regardless of whether your a die hard Boogie fan or not the ERXP opens many, many new doors for you. It's like trading a happy meal for a smorgasboard.

Either/or. You can go either way Sean Halley has a video up showing how a cab can be mic'ed into ProTools. And a user here has mic'ed his acoustic. Whatever you prefer.

A couple of interesting features of the 11R are that if you record the signal direct in ProTools you can re-amp the sound using different rigs so if you don't like what you are getting with the current rig, then try another.

And that ProTools embeds the rig settings right into the track. So if you were stupid enough to not save the preset before recording (like me), no problem the 11R restores the rig exactly as used in the recording - a great feature for me.

See: 11R Recording

But that's just me. Who knows the Axe FX maybe be better. But I'm happy with the sounds I am getting with the 11R + Xpansion pack and now using it live.

Yes, I can't disagree with your logic . The OP did ask specifically about the Mesa.

But the Xpansion brings so many more cards to the table. For instance, with the ParaEQ, your ability to emulate/create more sounds increases dramatically. You can get just that little bit closer to heaven. Look at what Benoni did in his last post on 11R presets, 20+ rigs mostly of metal classic hi-gainers .
