Default MXF audio for feature film mix in PT

Hello,
I recently upgraded our Avid Media Composer SFX library to 24-bit audio as we'd like to work in an all 24-bit audio environment. I wasn't paying attention when I brought everything in and imported everything as 24-bit MXF audio (rather than WAV).

This will have no impact on our editors but I'm concerned about when we send all of the audio in our final cut to Skywalker for the final mix. In the past we'd give them the OMFI folders from the Avid so they easily had everything they needed.

I believe I heard that the latest Pro Tools does support MXF audio. Does this mean one can simply bring in the audio without having to convert it first?

Should I be worried about this? It's not too late to convert everything over to WAV files as our next film is just getting started but it's a huge job.

Thanks for any feedback regarding this.

Yes, PT has been able to read MXF media with an AAF from MC for many years (I think since v7).

They will be able to either work directly with the AVID MXF media or covert it when opening the AAF to BWAV.

MXF does put a heavy strain on PT because of the very big wrapper but it has gotten better under PT10.x.

But below the line: Yes you can work with MXF audio directly in PT.

Frank.

one catch, Elastic Audio will not work on MXF files
everything can be converted on import, if you give them a heads-up
