Re: i\'m using IDE internal drive, how can i back up ??
Goto www.clubmac.com and purchase their firewire case for ATA drives. Buy the empty case. (I have seven)
Goto your local Best Buy, Circuit City, et al and buy raw ATA drives. I just bought 5 of the Maxstor 7200 rpm 40 gig for $112@. Install in the case. Plug-in the case to your G4 Firewire port. Copy the files as usual. The end

Re: i\'m using IDE internal drive, how can i back up ??
Neesley,
I'll try that - sounds like a winner. gw, - I back up via ethernet in "realtime" to toast. Toast will burn a CD via ethernet from: my G4 where the original files being used w/ Protools are, to a G3 (as in my case) where the burner resides. It goes about as fast as the fastest CD Burner will go in my case: 6X but will probably back-up as fast the burner will go - over 16 X speed, maybe faster. Przemek, Re-read my post - the Stealth is MADE for the G4!! Cool huh? It is about the most bone headed, easiest to install thing I'd ever installed and will work with your MTP AV, mine works EXACTY the same as it did with MY MTP III - no problem. Hope this helps. |

Re: i\'m using IDE internal drive, how can i back up ??
Backing up to CD-R is not even an option for me..all my sessions are 2 Gb and bigger. I will try using Ethernet to BK my Pt session to my tape drive.
Has anyone tried using firewire drive with ProTools ???? It would be a great solution if this could work. The only beef i have with IDE is that they are stuck in your G4 !!! not to practical when you have to swap sessions for clients..transfer over Ethernet is still way tooooo long...even with the latest G4 on a network !!! |

Hmm, that didn't work. Anyway, do a search on their site for firewire case, and you'll find it.

Re: i\'m using IDE internal drive, how can i back up ??
Hi, sorry I have to bring this topic up again.
I have a similar question. To dw, have you got your firewire external IDE yet? A friend told me teorically we could install a removablr IDE hard drive to our CPU, and do back up, and then pull it out again. Of course he is a pc user, but does it work for mac, too? Or anything similar? I have the same problem. Most of the songs are 2 Gig & above, backing up to CD is really a pain. And I hope not to go into Mezzo so is another IDE drive THE solution??? Thanks for any information 'cause I won't be able to run Norton before Solving this. |
