HDX on mac Studio 2022.10

Hello,

Running two separate of mac studios with thunderbolt HDX chassis and getting the same error message inconsistently when booting pro tools.

Unable to find an Audio Interface attached to the first HDX card. Please check the power and digilink cables and click ok to rescan. Cancel to open the Playback Engine Dialog and select a different device.

PT Version 2022.10
Mac Studio (2022)
M1 Ultra
128GB RAM

I've found an inconsistent workaround which is to either quit and relaunch pro tools / change the playback engine or switch the number of voices from HDX 1 to HDX 3 can kick it in and it sees the 3 HDX cards.

Has anyone else seen this and have any idea what might be causing it? Thanks

There are so many threads about Mac Studio having issues with thunderbolt chassis and HDX.

One of the most common solutions is to have the chassis plug into a Thunderbolt Dock and not directly into the Mac.

I haven't had any problems yet. I use the Avid Thunderbolt Chassis (one card). Plugged directly in to the Mac Studio.

Same here. No problems at all.

I had the similar kind of issue which I was able to resolve by having the chassis plug into a Thunderbolt Dock.

Thanks for your reply, information on this is harder to find than you suggest but thanks anyways for your recommendation on the Thunderbolt Dock, which dock are you using specifically?

Try booting the Mac Studio without the thunderbolt chassis plugged in then turn it on and plug it in, if it still gets the error then reboot with it still attached and see if that works. Sometimes the thunderbolt ports need to be woken up. If it still doesn't work try a pram reset with the chassis turned on and attached that may do the trick.

The dock solution works. I used OWC Thunderbolt Hub for my Mac Mini M1 and it solved the problem
