Loud Harsh Blast of Digital Noise
While bouncing to disk, Protools suddently froze and screamed out an extremely LOUD Harsh blast of digital noise!! Protools "unexpectedly quit" and now Protools will not launch.
I have tripple checked all connections, reseated all the cards, trashed preferences, completely shutdown and restarted mulitple times. Protools will not launch. The only thing I have not done is Unistall and Reinstall Protools. Anyone have any trouble shooting suggestions???? Cursing and Swearing Does not help! Thanks.

Re: Loud Harsh Blast of Digital Noise
Trash prefs, and see if that helps. If not, uninstall Pro Tools then re-install. To help in these situation I always make sure that I have a hard drive with a copy of my system on it. (you can use Supa Dupa or Carbon Copy Cloner to do this). So that if there is a problem then it is a simple matter to re-boot with the backup drive as the startup and continue working and solve the problem later. This can really save great frustration and keep sessions flowing well. It is a simple and reliable work practice that I urge all Pro Tools users to adopt. Drives are cheap and you cannot get back the time trying to solve problems like this.
hope this helps Simon L. |

Re: Loud Harsh Blast of Digital Noise
I ran the DigiTest: The results came back as "Digi Core Card Failed to Test".
How bad is this news?

Re: Loud Harsh Blast of Digital Noise
Sorry to say it, but the issue doesn't sound like anything software related - and with the digitest coming back like that, I think your core card has just died. Is it still in warranty? Have you tried re-seating the cards?
I second Simon's advice re. the backup copy though - I do that too and it can save your reputation as well as your time, however, I think this may be a little more serious. Sorry Tony |

Re: Loud Harsh Blast of Digital Noise
Okay....Is the Core Card serviceable??? No, it's not under warrantee anymore. Any estimation on cost to repair the card? Or I'm I screwed and will I have to purchase a new core card?

Re: Loud Harsh Blast of Digital Noise
If you are the registered owner of the card, you should call Tech Support.
I'm a little surprised you haven't done so yet. Even if are not the registered user and can prove you purchased the card legitimately, you should still call them. |
