Pro Tools hangs at initializing audio engine
I'm in need of some help with a new install of HD Native. I rebuilt my computer according to hardware recommendations in the i7 Sticky thread and updated to Omni HD Native Pcie on a desk top computer (Sandra report to follow). Native card install and downloads of 10.3.7 and 11.0.2 went good. When I clicked on PT icon to open program, the splash screen came up and everything loaded fine till "Initializing Audio Engine". The program just stalls at this point and when I open task manager it says "Pro tools is not responding" and I close program through task manager. This happens on all versions, 10.3.7; 11.0.2 and 11.1.0. I've done all the Windows optimizations and triple checked them. Trashed databases and preferences. Uninstalled and reinstalled Pro Tools. Looked for this particular problem on the internet and knowledge base and couldn't find it. Computer restarts after every change in programs or optimizations and PT still hangs up at initializing audio engine. I've been using PT since 7.0 and mbox 2 progressed to 003 rack and PT9 and this is first problem with getting software to work since using Pro Tools. I have some projects scheduled after new years and need to find a solution for this. I'm fatigued and frustrated at this point trying to resolve this any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks. Merry Christmas and Happy New year!

Re: Pro Tools hangs at initializing audio engine
What playback engine does Pro Tools think it is trying to use? If you hold down the 'N' key while Pro Tools is starting up what playback engine options are available? What happens if you try restarting Pro Tools and cycling through all those options? Do any work at all (including the Mbox)?
BTW Nice looking system... |

Re: Pro Tools hangs at initializing audio engine
Thanks Darryl. I've tried so many things to this point I forgot that I did hold the N key down and the HD Native card was in the playback engine. I also ran the digitest and from what I could make out from those results is that the Native card was being recognized by the system and there were no problem or errors on that side of things. By the way, couldn't have got where I'm at today without al the terrific help on this forum.

Re: Pro Tools hangs at initializing audio engine
Sorry, the mbox and 003 are long gone. All I have is the Omni. I can't get Pro Tools to load past the splash screen to check anything else. Seems like the audio engine is the last step in loading and that's where everything stops. I also shut everything down and checked the digi link cable connections between native card and Omni and those are seated and connected to the proper ports. Restarted and problem is still there. HD Native is indicated in the playback engine when holding down N key at start up. I appreciate your help with this.

Pro Tools hangs at initializing audio engine
OK then use your PCs ASIO audio card if you have one or install ASIO4ALL if needed. The goal right now is to just check Pro Tools works with anything. Edit: and you may just make progress by switching between that ASIO device and the HD Native in the playback engine--that has fixed similar glitches in the past.
What firmware version are the HD Native card and Omni running? Last edited by Darryl Ramm; 12-26-2013 at 12:38 AM. |

Re: Pro Tools hangs at initializing audio engine
I also notice the HD Native showing up as a system audio device. I cannot recall if that is what Sandra usually shows and I don't have a native system to compare to here but are you sure that the system sound or any other app is not trying to use the ASIO device.

Re: Pro Tools hangs at initializing audio engine
I will try downloading asio4all when I get home from work tonight. I am picking up a Saffire Pro 40 for extra pre's and analog inputs and see if I can get it up and running through one of those. I did a search for "asio" in the start up and found a number of asio files. When I look in sounds in control panel the only thing that's showing is the computer sound card. If I remember correctly, in my previous mbox2 and 003 setups those respective devices were available as selections in the sounds area. Not sure how this works with HD Native. Only selection available in playback engine holding N down at start up is HD Native. Will post back with results once I get asio4all and Saffire installed. Thanks!

Re: Pro Tools hangs at initializing audio engine
I'm seeing the same problem with PT 11 HD, and and HDX card and Omni. Same with 11.1.1 and 11.1.2.
I also have a an ASUS motherboard (Z87-WS), and an NVidia Titan graphics card. Digitest passes all tests. |
