RE20 kick drum technique
Does anybody else use an RE20 for kick? If so, how do you do it?
Great kick mic, by the way. I got so tired of the D112. This was just the ticket. Thanks, cuttooth |

Re: RE20 kick drum technique
I've actually used it with a D-112 to get a great kick sound.
I put the 112 inside the drum and aim it directly at the beater, about 2 inches away, then put the RE20 inside there and aim it at the shell. I usually boost the RE20 EQ a bit (about 4 dB) at around 1.3 kHz and then blend it with the d112. Some other things to try: Use the RE20 outside the drum aimed at the pedal/beater area and mix that in with the d112. Also, a popular trick a year or so ago was to make a cardboard tube and stick it in the kick and then put the mic in the tube. I tried it once. It's interesting. |
