I too have been experiencing these errors recently on a 96k/32bit tracking and mixing project. I am on PT10.3.1 with HDX2 and OSX 10.8.1. The tracking part was quite stable, but the mixing is far from that. Thrashing prefs helps for a while... Anyway ... having similar problem(s).

i am in contact with avid support for five weeks, they are working on it.

@people having the same issue with native plugins

it doesn´t matter if you´re on 10.6.8, 10.7.4, 10.7.5, 10.8 or 10.8.1
it doesn´t matter if you´re on a ssd or a standard hd

anything above 38% cpu usage is critical

so try to stay under that and don´t waste time installing your system several times or deleting cashes (which makes absolutely no sense for pro tools) booting into safe mode (which doesn´t change anything by just booting into it) messing with playback engine settings

we´ll get a bug fix

This may be a bit off topic but I had huge problems with the UAD stuff. I was on PT10.3.0HD (then moved to PT10.3.1HD) and UAD 6.3 (I am using 2x Quad Satellites). Then I installed UAD 6.3.1 which updated the firmware of the UAD. Since then the UADs are working really well.

Not the solution to your problem, but it might help a bit ... I hope. :)

Hi Everyone, I just want to chime in and say that since upgrading to OSX 10.8.2 and Pro Tools 10.3.2 I'm getting countless -9172's!! I'm on a HDX-1 System with an HD 16x16. I think the bug lies in Pro Tools no doubt!!
