Getting Roland TD-27 & Focusrite Scarlett to both record (edrums+instruments)
Hey y'all,
So I am new to this forum but thought it'd be the best place to potentially get an answer for how to solve my issue. So... I recently purchased a Roland TD-27KV2 to utilize for band practice and recording some home stuff. However, I can't seem to find a way to record BOTH the TD-27 (plugged in via USB to the computer) and the mics plugged into the Focusrite Scarlett simultaneously. Is this even possible? I am able to change the playback engine to the TD-27 and record drums, but cannot hear any playback as my default PC audio device is the Focusrite. So at the moment I have to record vdrums with playback engine set as TD-27, and then change the playback engine to the Focusrite ASIO to hear the playback. But while recording with the TD-27 as the playback engine, I am unable to record any mics?! Any work-arounds or suggestions on how to record my whole band? Ideally I would be able to record the TD-27 audio via multi track (i.e., snare, kick, toms, etc.) and throw on a few mics picking up the guitar, bass, etc. Thanks in advance, Cheers! |

Re: Getting Roland TD-27 & Focusrite Scarlett to both record (edrums+instruments)
Here's what should work:
#1-make the Scarlett the audio engine(this will allow you to record all the mic inputs) #2-(guessing a bit as you give no details on the computer)-plug the TD-27 Left/Right outputs into 2 inputs of the Scarlett and USB into the computer. This is how to get the Roland drum sounds and midi into Pro Tools. You can now choose to record them(use a STEREO AUDIO track and set the inputs to the pair you plugged the TD-27 into). You could also choose to hear the drums without recording by using a STEREO AUX track instead. #3-to record midi, create a midi track and put it into record(now playing the drum kit should result in midi being recorded***). #4-another scenario is to use the Roland kit to trigger a VI plugin such as EZdrummer by creating a STEREO INSTRUMENT track. Insert EZdrummer(or any drum VI) and put the track into record. Now the Roland kit should trigger the sounds from the plugin. Many drum plugins will have a mapping preset for Roland E kits. ***making midi work; on a Mac, I can't help. On a PC, in Pro Tools, go to Setup>Midi>Midi Studio and create a new "instrument". Name it as you like and you can skip the brand and model as those settings don't matter. The crucial setting is the INPUT PATH. This tells Pro Tools where to "look for" incoming midi. Clicking on the selection box should show something like Roland TD-27 on USB[Emulated](the proper selection should be obvious). Close this setup page and cross your fingers
