Default Audio Suite - Gain Plugin…..????

I am working on an older session i haven't addressed in a while……(waiting for some talent to come finalize vocals on a more current session).

Anyway…..what is the difference of an Audio Suite gain plugin and let's say Running the output of the EQ4band at a lower output?????

Live drums were recorded a little hot on the snare…(usual i suppose….Dogone i need a pad channel on that 003r!!!!! anyway)

I lowered the output control several db and that should do the trick right….?? no need for the gain plug……?

Thanks.

Default Re: Audio Suite - Gain Plugin…..????

That should be fine(and I do the same on stuff that is a tad too hot). I mainly use the GAIN plugin to raise or lower bits or audio, like to smooth out a vocal track so it hits the compressor a bit more evenly, or to fix bits of an otherwise good track. Sometimes, I will lower a whole track if its just slamming to top because, say I want to add a Pultec for some "air' or add a little compression, the added gain will then light up the clip indicator, so using the GAIN plugin to lower the entire track takes care of it. Not that this nets a difference over your method, it just makes the change permanent(so I don't need to think about it later if I change plugins around). +1 for using a pad, or choosing a mic that's not so hot. Remember, yellow is the new red

Cool thanks for confirming that I just wanted to make sure that there weren't any negative effects sonically speaking - it seems your idea is probably better b/c as u said it makes it permanent - so u can't set it and forget about it (after it renders of course)
