Horrible concept of culture....

I looked for materials to develop with my students some externals for MAX MSP or MAX 4 Live in order to circumvent the actual limitations of Artist Series with unsupported applications...and what i read on AVID Website is:

We do not make this program available for the purpose of evaluation, experimentation or academic study.....

so it seems that for AVID Academic members and students are just consumers that can in the best case benefit from some discounts?

hope I am pessimistic...

Without sounding like I'm having a go, do you think most businesses make their programs open source? Do Apple? Does Microsoft? You may be correct, it may be a 'horrible concept of culture', but what you suggest is a horrible concept of business.
I do believe Reaper (DAW Software) is open source, maybe you could do something with that as a project.

One thing is a open source program, i never claimed to be able to see the code or to modify pro tools! (i prefer doing music)
another thing is letting the customer use their hardware with any software you like, this basically would be a selling point for hardware..is it?

In which way would be negatively affected AVID business if i can use Mc Control for live electronics? Would be really a great controller, i would also pay for an extra maybe if they would develop and sell a product for doing that. They are not interested and i understand very well, i am interested, i could do. Sound simple to me. So why would it be considered a horrible business approach?

SORRY FOR MANY POST. also all the hardware i bought from 1995 to 200X had a nice chapter in manual. Was called APPENDIX. there was usually a SYSEX table. Yamaha, Roland, all the big companies never thought that power users could harm their business!

Where is it this wording you are complaining about? Link? A statement on the Avid Developer program? That sounds like common wording that Avid uses in several places. Where this is used it looks to me like Avid is simply pointing out this is not an open call for anybody and everybody who wants source code or developer program access.

Avid likely needs to filter those involved in this and want to allocate resources to work with developers working on key products. With no real detail from you, folks on this forum will not know how to evaluate your complaints about Avid, to many it will look like you are just going off half cocked and complaining for little or no reason. Have you actually applied to the developer program? Been rejected--what did Avid say? Did you explain you know the normal program restrictions but explain what you want to do and ask nicely if there is any other way that you can get the access you are after. Or did this stop at just reading the stuff on the web and posting complaints here?

Complaining about Avid on this customer forum is probalby not the way I'd try to go about winning friends inside Avid and getting access to software, developer programs and favors. Of course if you've put a lot of work into trying to get access and have a great reason for doing so and not been able to get anywhere then this is a fine place to let folks know...
