Default MIDI problem...can\'t change patch / hear MIDI

Hi...

I set up a MIDI track as well as Aux track, and I can record the MIDI and hear my piano sound through the Aux tracks. I could be new and clueless...but aren't I just hearing audio? I try to change the MIDI playback sounds but can't. I can see that the MIDI notes have recorded on the track, though.

I'm on a mac OX 10.3.9 with PT LE 6.8.1. I connect the MIDI from a Yamaha Clavinova to an Mbox 2. I know the MIDI works from the Claivinova because it used to work in Cubasis.

any help would be greatly appreciated! I've searched all over and I'm sure it's a simple question but I'm lost.

Christina

Yes, you should hear the audio from the Yamaha if that's connected to the Digidesign hardware interface. Patch select will not work in Pro Tools like you think, you'll have to do this on the Yamaha itself. Also the yamaha will have to be set to Performance mode or something of the like and Local will need to be turned OFF.

Actually, I must have hit something because now I can't hear anything...

Is there a good place to read about MIDI setup? I have "pro tools for dummies" and I wouldn't recommend it.

Digidesign Reference Guide .pdf (Use the Index)

Digidesign Getting Started Guide .pdf

Also search the Yamaha Manual for connection to external MIDI device/Sequencer/Computer

Any questions you know where we are.
