Default Yet Another LCD/Plasma Delay Question

Hi all...

Well, with our new owner, we're finally refitting our rooms. The boss want's the WOW factor of a large Plasma or LCD screen in the A Room. So my question is:

Assuming I have a Syncheck (a prerequisite for this sort of screen) is the delay CONSTANT. I would assume it is but I don't want to get into a mess here.

Also any opinions on the pros and cons of LCD vs Plasma would be welcome. I would MOST like a projector, but I think some other factors will prevent that.

Thanks...

hi howard!

yes, the delay is CONSTANT -- well so far as i can tell. once i set the offset, it stays that way and i never notice drift.

a number of people recently have posted about some really nice LCD's that are full res. HD monitors. just do a ssearch on LCD in the last 6 months. they had model #'s and everything. the LCD's may be cheaper. i got a plasma becasue i got a guy...

i have a plasma (NEC) that plays HD, NTSC, PAL, or the computer desktop. a projector or some LCD's will do the same. so research you possibilities.

i did find that my new setup has a different offset from my old NTSC offset. my old G4/933 with IgniterLT and then FUSE-X into a Zenith was 150ms! my new QUAD AJA LHe into the NEC is 65ms.

there is delay with a projector as well. the ones that look great are very expensive.

Yes, I can see how that might cause a delay.

Thanks Minister!

That's what I figured, but better safe then sorry... Oh the joys of internal politics Now THAT's a delay!

Richard, I'll be calling on you shortly for that Syncheck! If they can afford $2000 for a TV, then they can afford a few hundred for a Syncheck.

Sonsey,

As you already know, the Syncheck is ABSOLUTELY a necessity! After having one, I never go anywhere without it! And no, Richard did not pay me to write this ; { )

Just to add my 2 cents (and I know everyone here likes to hear my 2 cents ), the delay is not necessarily constant. Depending on the native resolution of the monitor and the monitor's capabilities in general, the delay can be different for different resolutions/frame rates. A particular Panasonic I was looking at was quoted by the manufacturer as having a delay as small as 5.3 mSec up to 26.2 mSec depending on the resolution dispayed.

i was assuming he meant drift from within a certain codec and/or setup. yes, the different setups, SDI, RGB, S-Video, codec data rates may have different latencies (as was discussed in the previous thread) but once you are there, the delay is constant.

Thanks Johhny,

Yes minister was right- I was referring to a given set-up. The change with various codecs and set-up happens with pretty much ANY screen, but I like to stick with one set-up as much as possible to insure consistency. A good point and reminder though.

Thanks for all the advice.
