Default Monitoring MIDI with the Mbox2

I have imported a MIDI drum track into a PT session. What steps do I need to take to monitor the MIDI track through the MBox?

7.x Instrument track if your using a computer-based sound module or 6.x a MIDI/AUX setup which can be used either for an external sound module or a computer-based sound module.

The MIDI file you imported, is only a MIDI performance, which are called triggers, these triggers (the MIDI performance) does not contain any sound, you have to connect some sort of playback medium (sound) to this MIDI performance, either a computer-based (software) drum module, like Reason's ReDrum or BFD, or an external drum machine (hardware), so you can hear this MIDI performance.

What drum module(s) (Software or Hardware) are you using?

What version of Pro Tools are you using?

Not being a BFD user myself, I can't really help you with that program, but are you using BFD Lite or the full version?

Since your using a computer-based drum module, Instrument tracks will do nicely.

What's your cup of tea, BFD or ReDrum?

Ok, Now I've gotten BFD to work, but it only works for the first second of the playback of the MIDI track. The volume just cuts off completely after about a second. I opened up BFD to audition some of the sounds but only the cymbals and bass drum work. The snare and toms just make a click sound when I trigger it. Anyone know what the problem is? Im using BFD Lite.

From the sounds of it, you'll have to 'Map' your MIDI drum performance to the correct BFD instruments. In other words, use the Pencil tool on the Instrument track to find out where the Bass Drum triggers, where the Snare Drum triggers and so forth and then copy and paste your MIDI drum performance to those locations.

You need to install the update available from the digidesign website.
