Logic Pro 9.1 with TDM Hardware
I run Pro Tools but have a producer in at the moment who prefers to use Logic. This is what he wrote on the Logic Forum but without any reply, anybody have any ideas over here?
'I am trying to run Logic Pro 9.1 synced to Pro Tools HD hardware - with Lynx Aurora converters. As far as I can tell everything is set up correctly, but on playback all I get is a horrible stuttering noise. The clock on the transport controls stutters as well - it almost looks like a sync problem but it occurs even when we only run one of the Auroras. The problem happens even in a completely new project. Pro Tools is version 8.0cs3 so it's not the recent update that has caused the problem - one PCI Core card and one PCI process card. Logic is 9.1 - we have also tried 9.0 and 8 and the problem exists in those as well. Computer is a Mac Pro running OSX 10.5.7 We're trying to get a session running here and it's a nightmare! please help!' |

Re: Logic Pro 9.1 with TDM Hardware
I seem to recall a noise like that once I was trying to get Logic to sync to external. There a things better not done in Logic.
In case I have understood "syncing" correctly try this. Try having PT as slave instead of Logic and use latter as Master. If you must have Logic running as slave make sure you slave it to MTC, nothing exotic please, that Logic cannot handle. Best bet would be to do the work you need done in logic hit play in Logic and Rec in protools. Do it the manual way. Trust me on this one, if something can mess up the mojo, creativity and GOOD mood, it's Logic. Wonder who EVR gave the App that name. Should have called it Layman.

Re: Logic Pro 9.1 with TDM Hardware
Thanks for the answer, but we are not trying to sync Logic to Pro Tools per se, just trying to run Logic using Pro Tools HD hardware - this should be possible using Logic in DAE mode, which is how we have it running, but then the problem arises.

Re: Logic Pro 9.1 with TDM Hardware
ted, i have the same issue here ... but i am sure mine is due to versions of logic and PT
could this be an accel card issue ? you are not running accel cards at all .. just a thought :) john

Re: Logic Pro 9.1 with TDM Hardware
Since the last update, DIGI dropped support for TDM under Logic and DP. Sorry.

Re: Logic Pro 9.1 with TDM Hardware
Fidelis,
as stated by OP .. Pro Tools is version 8.0cs3 so it's not the recent update that has caused the problem - one PCI Core card and one PCI process card. Logic is 9.1 - we have also tried 9.0 and 8 and the problem exists in those as well. not sure if you saw that .. cheers john

Re: Logic Pro 9.1 with TDM Hardware
John & Tornado.
A few questions, in order to get to the bottom of your problem: (I currently have Logic 9.1, PT8.01cs1, OS 10.5.8, Accel 2 working fine) 1. I assume you have tested that the hardware works as expected when using Pro Tools software instead of Logic? 2. Are you using only DAE or a combination with Core Audio or DTDM? 3. I have no experience with the Aurora but I assume it mimics a Digidesign 192? If yes, then you should set it to internal sync. You can do this from within Logic: preferences/audio/drivers/Digidesign hardware controls (or something like it) . Should you happen to use Core Audio at the same time, you can sync the Core Audio interface to the Aurora with word clock, and setting it to slave in that respective audio interface's software. No sync options should be enabled in Logic (just use internal). Dom |

Re: Logic Pro 9.1 with TDM Hardware
crimison,
1) yes, aurora been here since day one .. well close ... 2) i tried DAE alone / then with core audio 3) yes, it looks just like 2 192's in advanced mode in pro tools i think your version of pro tools still supports Logic DAE/TDM ... but i have a newer version of pro tools ... OP .. has 8.0cs3 ... lower version than yourself even and he has these issues .. i am not owrking in Logic that much .. just tried it to see what would happen after the announcement of the end of support .. cheers john

Re: Logic Pro 9.1 with TDM Hardware
Yes PT 8.0.3 is definitely not working with Logic. I think though the OP's versions should work but he may have some sync settings wrong.
