Default Anyone use Maxim regularly?

I've been using it once in a while, and it's intriguing, however I'm still getting to know my way around PT etc, and would be interested in any tips, observations, opinions, etc...

Thanks in advance!

Max

I have been using it or DUY MAX recently as I have been looking for a different flavor than the L-2 or L-1 that seems to be on most recordings these days. SC

I bought the Factory bundle hoping that Maxim would be a sufficient maximizer. I found it to be noisy for my source material. If you baby it, it will work, but L1 AND L2 blow it away even though these give me some trouble also.

The L1 & L2 puts the notable attenuation at a much lower frequency. The ARC function of the L2 is also a powerful feature.

Maxim does provide a good GUI to see the levels of your source.

Thanks for the info; I guess that brings me to my next question. I've been seriously looking at the Waves plugs.

If you could spend $650/$700 or thereabouts on compressor/limiter/mastering software, where would you put it?

Maybe I'm wrong about this (and I'd like to be!) but in the past if I sunk some cash into a piece of gear, kept it mint with it's box and it's paperwork, etc. I could get out of it if I wasn't thrilled about it. It seems a little harder to do this with a couple of disks.

I don't mind having to sell something for a couple hundred less than I paid so I can get the gear I should have gotten in the first place.

Thanks!

BTW: the DUC has been really helpful in the short time I've been using it.

I was using it for a while on the master fader, with the dither plugin below it, when bouncing to disc.

Then I compared the results with using Compressorbank, along with a 1 band eq. on the master fader, and I liked the sound better that way. It's a closer to the sound I want - without paying for a mastering session.

Hands down the L2, LMB, and LEQ are the best mastering tools out there for anyone with LE. I hate Maxim, it distorts way to easily. Spend the money and get the Waves.

Well, to answer my own question - I just checked out the demo. Pretty damn impressive. 5 band brick-wall limiting, very nice metering that is actually intuitive. I don't really have time to mess around with it too much more at this moment but it sounds very very good so far. I like the big solo buttons on each band. Might need it’s own thread.

dk.
