My main home machine is a 2010 MacPro 5,1 running macOS 12.6.4, Pro Tools 2023.3. Internal HDX, Thunderbolt /USB C and M.2 SSD PCI cards. UAD Octo PCI card in an external Thunderbolt Sonnett chassis. MTRX Studio interface. C|24 Control surface.

It is a beast that runs complex stereo and surround mixes every day.

As the Opencore install process goes on there are a number of reboots. Being able to see that boot screen means you can track how the process is going. For a while you are actually booting up from the EFI on a USB stick, and if all goes well, you see that it eventually swaps over to the system drive you’re installing the OS onto.

Without seeing the boot screen, it is impossible to boot to any alternate drive like an installer or alternate OS version. So NO, you don't need a boot picker for everyday use but for any troubleshooting or choosing another drive prior to booting, YES you do need it.

I'm still rocking two Mac Pro 2009 flashed to 5.1 and upgraded, with dual 3.3 6 core CPUs and Radeon Pulse RX580s, to Mojave.
Running 5.1 and Atmos sessions in Pro Tools Ultimate 2023.3 with no issues.

Little side note. My main machine is using all of RX580's ports driving 3 monitors and a 40inch TV(DP, HDMI and DVI) and I'm still able to connect my Command-8 and D-Command.

I also have a couple more single CPU machines flashed to 5.1 and 3.46 6core Xeons.....

Got them for peanuts and done all the upgrades myself.

Still on the fence about Mac Studio or Mac mini M2 Pro.... any chance I will see a real performance boost?
Cheers.

Luca

So it looks like people can work with a 4.1 flashed to a 5.1 with the newest pro tools version on mojave/...

I still constantly get the 6101 error after trying a lot of things though. I don't get the error with a higher buffer number like 1024. But then I can't record performances...
I even get it with an empty pro tools track. Can't play it for 1 sec.
Anyone had the same problem ?
