Can I just add an Omni to my HDX I/O 16x16 rig? And use the expansion port on the HDX I/O for more in & outs?

Any better hardware for the same price point?

yes you can add the Omni to your rig. it's not adding much I/O to your system

not that I know of

a used 192 might be a more cost effective option

True, but consider, its only 2 preamps and a total of 8 IO(using the digital ports and 2 line inputs). I would also lean towards a used 192 and a decent monitor controller(been quite happy with the Presonus Central Station here). Weigh the cost(and the rack space)
