Default Sample Rate question

Quick question....I've got a guitar player who has sent me his files recorded at 48khz....I imported them into my session via pro tools which is 44.1 and it converts the files automatically. Is there a significant or even audible loss in quality converting down to 44.1?

Why not import them as 48k files and work with them at that sample rate?

My advice - don't worry about it. If it sounds good in 48, it'll sound good in 44.1. To my ear, the conversion sounds very good, and I consider it way more important how you treat the file once it's converted.
