Default PT LE8 Windows hangs on startup

Hi

I recently had my PC formatted & updated and reinstalled all software but cannot launch Pro Tools.

I get this error message:

"Could not complete your request because Access Violation occured, unable to read location: 0x00000000 at address: 0x00000000 in module: ProToolsLE.exe"

It always hangs at the same plug-in every time: "bombfactory BF76 (Automap). dpm

I am running LE 8.0.3 (and was prior to my problems) on Windows XP SP3. I have MBox 2 Factory.

I have removed IE8, changed USB ports on the PC, tried updated drivers and uninstalled and re-installed. I have now been 4 months without PT and am having withdrawls.

Any help is appreciated.

Regards
Rich

Make sure you have the latest PACE drivers from www.paceap.com

The automap thing is a bit odd... Are you using a Novation controller with Automap?

Since you are on XP, would you please run the Tech Support utility from the Tech Support Folder and generate a plugin list for us? That will definitely make things a whole lot easier to diagnose.

Default Re: PT LE8 Windows hangs on startup

Thanks spkguitar.

I have updated the latest PACE drivers to no avail.

Yep, using a Novation SL25 controller with Automap.

Tried the Tech Support utility which I downloaded to disc but it would not run on my PT PC. I got the error: "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item". Is this maybe an administration issue?

I have also tried to remove Service Pack 3 but cannot find it on the Control Panel.

I don't have much confidence in the guy who formatted my PC. I am worried that he may have deleated some part of Windows.

Hey spkguitar

Thanks for your help. I managed to get the Tech Support Utility working (it had corrupted when I extracted the files) and it solved my problem - so far.

I have PT 8 up and running after 4 months of downtime so won't be seeing much of the world for a few days.
