Default Mac Keeps Rebooting

Hello,

Anyone come across a problem of the PowerMac G4/733 always rebooting when the unit is turned on every morning or the next day?

The only way to stop it would be to yank out the power supply cord, wait a few seconds, and then plug it back in. Then the system would boot properly.

Any input? Thanks.

If you still have your Appian Jeronimo card, it might be this item from the Answerbase:

Quote:
While installing an Appian Jeronimo 2000 AGP Dual Monitor video card into a 2001 G4 Quicksilver model, the computer spontaneously boots up by itself.
This issue is due to a change in the Apple G4's AGP slot. The pins Apple uses for USB and Power on the new AGP slots are the same pins Appian uses for grounding on the Jeronimo 2000 monitor card.
To have the card modified to resolve this issue, please contact Appian Tech Support at (425) 882-2020.

Spontaneous reboot problems have been linked to various combinations and configurations of USB devices. Sometimes changing how they are connected, or disconnecting before shutdown can solve the problem.

Ours boots up after shut down and then freezes.... we worked out that it's because we've got USB extension cables, from the G4 to the Keyboard/Mouse.
Does anyone else know anything about this or how to overcome it?

We don't use an Appian Card. It's all the standard stuff that came with the Mac.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">You might try the "most current" Gefen USB extension cable. Gefen Systems, Woodland Hills, CA. 800.545.6900. Tell them I said hello.

i bought a USB extension from Geffen and my Quicksilver 876 did the same thing.

i went through a round robin of emails with Geffen and they flat out refused to replace the cable, or refund my money.

so it's lookin' nice up on the utility shelf in the machine room these days.

how did i solve the extension problem? well i went out to the local PC store and bought four (count 'em 1,2,3,4) standard 3 foot USB male to female extensions and chained them up and they work great!

money well spent.
