Although I'm pretty sure that Adat will soon go the way of the thunderbolt wire if you think about it. This box can already be combined with multiple version of itself through the thunderbolt ports.

Did not know Win had TB on the horizon.....

Well at least it's a consession to have the older PC guys on the train....

Also I can imagine he put the design into place when there were doubts about TB and Win playing nicely together

On the horizon????
Focusrite, UA, RME, Motu, Resident audio, Avid, Lynx and others all have Thunderbolt interfaces for Windows. Most of my business is building PC's for customers who want Thunderbolt.

Yeah, sorry last I checked was X99 chipset and I don't think they had them or they weren't very prevalent at that time.....

I can't afford the new stuff anyway, running an LGA2011 8 core Xeon....for the foreseeable future

What i like about the Slate system is that except for the DAW it is end to end and well priced for what it does.

Small and Lg Diaphragm Mics that can mimic other mics costing far more through Slates own plugins

Preamp/Converter that is fast and can also mimic many popular much more expensive preamps through Slates own plugins

Performance (using all Slate plugins) that is super low CPU hit.

Does it do it all?? Time will tell. If it does - then it is a very competitive product (as long as the I/O fits your needs).

I mean c'mon, he couldn't have thrown a couple of ADAT connectors on there?

Wish I would have waited on getting the HD Omni, Native Thunderbolt and his Slate VMS. They should give some sort of discount to those of us who bought his mic system recently.

I wonder how the 0.7ms low latency monitoring works. Usually you'd have some kind of a inputs-to-output mixer app for to-tape monitoring like most other audio interface drivers have. But would you then hear the mic / preamp models in the monitoring path? In the video Steve inserted the plugins in Pro Tools. Does that mean they have found a way to beat the buffer-size? Can one insert the Mic Model Plugin, the Preamp plugin and maybe the VMR in PT, monitor all of that through Pro Tools and still only have 0.7ms latency??? Just like a DSP system, but native? Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe that's what Steve promised in the video.
That's rather hard to believe. Would be spectacular if they pulled that off.

As I posted in the GS thread - 0.7ms represents the DAW buffer alone at 96kHz 32buffer (not even possible in Pro Tools). The best RTL through a DAW I have seen to date is 1.1ms for an Apogee Ensemble TB (96kHz/32Buffer). The 0.7ms claim seems unsupportable to me. 0.9ms maybe with the fastest converters available. Less - not likely.

Just what I thought. Unless there is some kind of DSP chip that allows for to-tape monitoring within the unit. But then you wouldn't have all the plugins in the monitoring path.

Native means you have either one or the other. You can't have low latency while also monitoring through plug ins. Still, I believe Steve made it sound as if he found a way.
