Default Win 7, OWC external HDD, not a valid audio volume...

Hey guys, so I received my OWC Muercury Elite-AL Pro external HDD 750GB 32 cache yesterday so I can properly record with Pro Tools LE. I had a difficult time setting it up since Im not too computer savvy but have finally got the correct GB amount and the HDD showing on my computer.

When I went to record a session in PT I got the message that said not a valid audio volume, if i could to change it to "R" for record. So I followed what was told on this site went to the workspace and under A was a T and under V was an R. I went to change the T to an R under A and it says that it

"cannot be designated as an Audio Record volume because it is not a valid audio volume."

My drive shows up as BASIC with NTFS. I know alot of you dont use win 7 with PT yet but it is all i have wondering if anyone has any info to fix this problem. any help is appreciated guys thank you

Your external drive is not listed in your sandra report.

It is very important to run your sandra report on your computer exactly as it is when running Pro Tools.

You are running windows 7 64bit; are you using the beta drivers? (you should be).

Reports in another Windows 7 thread state that uninstalling, rebooting and re-installing the driver solved a similar problem.

You should also format any new drive before using it.

Here's a link to a quick video on how to do that:

I went through this same frustrating process.

Make sure you remove the GUID Partitioning Scheme. The instructions on how to do so are included with the drive. It says you shouldn't have to for Win 7, but I definitely had to before the drive was recognized as anything other than transfer only.

Good luck!

Your new Sandra report shows Vista Media Center 64 bit. I doubt this will ever fly.

Im having a hard time finding anything on removing the GUID partition scheme. Do you remember at all on how to do that?

Whats wrong with the Vista Media Center 64 bit? I have recorded with this laptop on its internal hard drive fine before I bought this external drive, but everyone on this board kept saying I need one, and that it may help stop the HW Buffer Size error I was getting sometimes.

The exact message I get when I try to change Audio (T)ransfer to (R)ecord is:
"cannot be designated as an Audio Record volume because it is not a valid volume."

go to windows "computer management/disk management" and search for "convert GDI"
You need to move everything off the disk first.
