Pitch Shift VS. Elastic Pitch
Question:
If I record a guitar part at half speed, and then need to pitch it back down an octave after it's tracked -- which feature will yield the best sounding results? Anyone have experience with this? Any tips or advice is much appreciated! Thanks. |

Re: Pitch Shift VS. Elastic Pitch
Probably nothing is going to sound real. A full octave shift will have a lot of artifacts. Elastic pitch, X-Form or Serato pitch n Time will likely all have similar results. Once you get past about 4-5 half-steps, things get pretty weird. Still, it may be a cool effect like some '70's disco hit I can't recall the name of.

Re: Pitch Shift VS. Elastic Pitch
Pitch 'n Time is my favorite for this type of job, But as albee has said; nothing is going to sound real at an octave.

KC & The Sunshine Band I just heard that on the radio the other day and was amazed at how great it still sounds, even coming right after a new tune. The sound quality holds up well after all these years!

Re: Pitch Shift VS. Elastic Pitch
If your after the most real result besides actually playing fast I would in grid mode cut the dead/silent parts between the notes and then crossfade the whole region. Sound much better than using software to pitch.

Re: Pitch Shift VS. Elastic Pitch
I used to do similare things with my guitar to get it to sound as a bass. I never could make it sound as good as I wanted (to many artifacts), so I actually bought a real bass instead. Nothing compares to the real thing.
