How many of you are using an S1 without a screen?

With end of life for my Artist Mixes coming I’m thinking of moving to a couple of S1s.
In my setup the screens would be kind of a pain. Are any of you using your S1s without a screen and if so how is the experience?

You have a Dock. The only visual advantage the screens add to the S1’s when you have a Dock is the metering. Otherwise you can get along just fine without screens. You can always add some cheap tablets later on as your budget allows or when Fire HD10’s go on sale.

BTW, you have almost 2 years before EOL for Artist Mix. 12/31/24

I do like the screen (AVID Control app) but more for soft keys and sometimes panning. Since the screen doesn't follow the parameters that you select on the S1 that part is semi-useful though. Since I want to cut down on shoulder strain I usually keep the tablet off the S1 closer to my keyboard. The screen also makes it even harder to arrange an ergonomic work place as a sound editor when they are on the S1. The S1 is also a lot higher than the Artists so I had the re-shuffle all my computer screens for the S1. However it is less wide but much longer. Wether or not that is good or bad I guess depends on your desk.
Personally, I don't need the meters. I'd use them more if you could hard-assign dedicated stems to them that are independent of a given layout but that's not possible
The single track ones are pretty useless for what I do.

Working fine here without tablets on the S1s. I'm still considering cheap tablets for meters, though. Will definitely look into the Fire HD10's, if the sale is still on.

In your layout Avid Control Desktop would actually work really well.

My original plan was to have 2 S1s and 2 LG widescreens on either side of the Dock, with the LGs pulled down over the lip of the S1s and running Avid Control Desktop along the bottom of the screens. But I found that 4 S1s + Dock was a bit wide for my comfort and having my the edit window off to one side a bit to be not ergonomically great. I am definitely considering grabbing a few Fire 10HDs to fill out the meter bridge.
