video engine failed to initialize...
...I've noticed this message during the start-up sequence since the 7.4.2 upgrade. Thought nothing of it, b/c just before this message, I get the following messages: "launching video engine" then "no video hardware connected". Thought this some new thing with 7.4.2 that I would not worry about until I connected a camera? But now when I try to open an .omf I get a message that "some files could not be imported because the avid engine is not installed". Are these two msgs connected? Seems to make since if the video engine did not initialize that the avid engine was not installed...
Also, the only way I can even try to import omfs is by using the "import video" option. I don't recall having to do that before... Seem to recall that I could import under "import audio" tab, but clicking on an .omf in that instance gives me a "file unreadable by pro tools" message. Only reference I could find in the answerbase to these msgs was referring to an XP machine and old Avid drivers. Am I missing something here? Any help would be really appreciated, as I am starting a project today, and I would rather have the data omfs provide, rather than trying to import the audio from a QT movie! Many thanks in advance, Nathan

Re: video engine failed to initialize...
Did you install the video engine without having Mojo?
try uninstall, then install without the .Avid Video engine.option

Re: video engine failed to initialize...
That's the thing, I don't have Avid's Mojo... Or any other sort of hardware interface... which is why I at first thought the msgs weren't a problem. Maybe they aren't, and there's something else going on, but I can't figure it. So you're thinking uninstall PT and uncheck the option? I was hoping to install it so that when I can get an interface, I wouldn't have to do the process over again...

Re: video engine failed to initialize...
regarding:"some files could not be imported because the avid engine is not installed"
is there some video/referenced MXF data contained in the OMF? that could be the culprit

Re: video engine failed to initialize...
Oh, and Felix, as to the MXF info... I've tried importing a known good .omf file to aqccount for that possibility. No good either...

Re: video engine failed to initialize...
Remove the Video Engine folder if it is in the following location:
Applications/Digidesign/Pro Tools/Video Engine And also the Video Engine folder from here: Library/Application Support/Digidesign/Video Engine You don't have to delete them entirely, but you do need to move them to a different location.

Re: video engine failed to initialize...
Thanks for the input digi, but this has not helped anything. Still the same problem - upon an attempt to import, I get "some files could not be imported because the avid engine is not installed"...
