M3 Max with HDX so Sonnet echo express III D/R upgrade card

Hi all

I am using a MacBook Pro 16'' i9 late 2019 with a hdx card, using a Sonnet echo express III D/R Thunderbolt 2, with an adapter to thunderbolt 3.
Works very good.
I need to upgrade to a M3max MacBook Pro . so I thought I could use the existing sonnet box and get a Sonnetthunderbolt 3 upgrade card so it has thunderbolt 3

Why change anything to do with the chassis? The HDX card is dopey slow and does not run at Thunderbolt 3/PCIe 3 speed.

Some of the older setups like your current one rely on the Thunderbolt 2 to 3 adapter since the PCIe slots in the chassis have to be PCIe2 compliant and those older Thunderbolt 2 chassis do that (the Thunderbolt 3 chassis from Sonnet qualified with HDX have a switch to force PCIe2 mode).

Try it and see with what you've got.

(From experience, it'll work perfectly! The change in thunderbolt card gets you nothing)

Use the adapter tb3-2 you have
Or just go TB 3 audio interface and leave HDX (in the studio if needed)

100%. The TB Chassis compatibility chart is a great reference, but there are always scenarios which are not tested which can work perfectly well.
