What is the control room knob used for?

So I am on a split windows 7/ Hackintosh Mountain Lion system and a Macbook pro.

I was super psyched for moving my mixing desk off my desk and using the control room knob on my mc control as a master volume control for every 10-20 mins I need the volume up or down. On Eucon 2.6 it didnt seem to work right with Windows at all. At least I have my Mac partition to use with studio monitor express right! Nope. Read that Mountain Lion does not use Studio Monitor Express and 2.7 on windows does not work as promised. So I am guessing that most people in pro audio are on mac. So tell me what is the control room knob on the MC control used for? Nothing??? Really....

So trying to give studio monitor express a go again and played with it for like a half hour never could get any sound to come out at all. I am on a studiolive 16.4.2 using channels 17 and 18 for the monitor out into my main channel of my studiolive... Seriously nothing... Can I write tech support? I am on a windows machine not mac....

really, Avid, can we not just map that knob to the master fader or something, when no SME present? also I consider SME unnecessary and don't want to install it at all?

Using the master fader for monitor level is typically a bad idea. CR level needs to come after the master bus.

There where some very significant changes in OS 10.8 that affected the SME drivers. It requires a significant amount of rework to make it work again.

I'm grateful for 3.0 and most things work most of the time but is there a time frame for the Studio Monitor Express fix or another solution so I can use the control room knob to control my monitor volume like I used to. I'm on a Mac running Mountain Lion and Logic Pro X

It's always one thing or tuther.
It would be nice to have it all work like it's pose to.
I guess we have just enough to get by and Avid thinks that's all we need for now.

I know the forum is where you hear all the problems and people trying to get help and it's wonderful thing to have that but...
I better keep my mouth shut.

I think Avid (the new CEO) is trying to figure out how to make money and forgetting about helping their user base. The moderators are stuck in the middle trying their best to buffer the gap and help people.

Im still wondering what this knob is used for, I have a crappy keyboard that can make my volume up or down. Cant Avid make the knob do the same via keystroke emulation or something.


I am beginning to think Avid is a failure and failing horribly on there super expensive highly advertised surfaces. Have they given up?
