Default 2.02 in a D show help!!

I'm at a theater in helping one of my clients get up and running with a new house engineer.. Theater has a Dshow with a side car and 2.02 software....

All is good and stable but I surely feel we should update the software...

Which one gives me the best option.. I am leaving after the first show tonight and the new house guy is getting up to speed but I would like to leave him with some of the newer feature sets.. But I can't afford and upgrade path heartache.. Sheldon ????

Hi Marty,

To get from 2.0.2 to the latest version is a D-Show 2.8.1 upgrade kit (available through VENUE dealers) followed by a quick update to the latest 2.8.5 dot release (available for download - see sticky post at the top of this forum).

That said, if the client is still getting comfortable with the system it might be a good idea to let things settle as is for a while, and when there's a break in production or a few dark days go for the update then. This gives enough time to order the kit, install, and spend some time getting used to the new features before going live under high pressure.

What plug-ins are installed? Check to be sure you won't throw them in the river on any optional plug-ins they may have purchased in the past and have been using on the old version. Most plug-ins have updates to play nice with the D-Show updates, but TrooTrace for one no longer works in the newest version.

Hi Eric,

I think there might be some clarification needed here. TrooTrace still works with VENUE systems - even systems running the latest version of console software.

However, TrooTrace is no longer included in the basic plug-in package (and hasn't been for quite some time), because the company that developed it no longer exists. If you happen to already own TrooTrace it can be used on a system running any version of 2.x console software. Also, once you own the authorization for a plug-in, updating the console software will not cause the plug-in to stop working. There are very few dependencies between the console software version and plug-ins.

We're hopeful another plug-in developer will step up and fill in the gap soon.

Also Sheldon

For the life of me I couldn't get the snapshot's to work in this desk..

I saved my main concert snapshot ...

Then duplicated the snapshot and only changwed 4 channel names and 2 group assignments and resaved the opener snapshot..

All parameters were scoped... When toggling back and forth then name changes did not change... There was nothing recall safed and the recall safe on/off button was off.. Maybe this early 2.02 software was not as mature as this new stuff ??

thanks mb

This will only be available from an individual ho is willing to sell their auth to you privately. The company that made TrooTrace no longer sells or supports it (becuase they don't even exist anymore...)

Hi Marty,

The functionality you describe (changing names) has been in place since v1.0, so it's likely not related to the version number.

A few things to check:
  • The NAME data type is scoped
  • The channel faders (along the bottom of the screen) are scoped
  • The name changes have been stored to the correct snapshot. Seems obvious, but hey, this has fooled me before

Hey Sheldon,
Thanks for the clarification on the Troo Trace plug. I thought for sure I read in another thread that it wouldn't work in this version. GLAD to know I'm wrong about that! Our volunteers had become pretty fond of using it to help them "find feedback".
