Default Another annoying issue. A good issue, but still annoying. Plugin latency.

I just noticed another pita issue. It's not really an issue. I'm just bitching, but still it's annoying. Somewhere between building a new pc, oc'ing the processor, and updating psp vintage warmer, psp vm now only has 631ms of latency all of a sudden. For the last year I've been using it, it was always 2175ms latent. So now all those tracks i used it on and whipped out the calculator on all have to be re-timeadjusted. I was never one to absolutely have to have adc, but now having to redo work makes it look real good right about now.

Yeah, this Mellowmuse ATA chit is confusing. It's easy to use until you start throwing a bunch of aux tracks in there. The tutorials don't really help much with that.

It's easy to use regardless of the size or complexity of your session if you just follow the layers concept. Audio and instrument tracks are the "Audio" layer. Sends and outs from these go to tracks in the "Aux1" layer. Sends and outs from there go to the "Aux2" layer and so on. I love my 3 UAD cards and ATA makes life so much simpler.

The audio part is easy to grasp. The thing that I'm still wrapping my brain around is the aux group layers and the level knob on the Master. For example, take a look at this screenie. The way I do my sessions is I'll have all the instruments going right to the Master as the main outs. But other times, as in this case, I sent all the instruments to an aux. I like to do this so I can bring the level of all the instruments up or down without affecting any effects sends I may have on them. For the vocals, I usually have all the verses going to a Verse aux, the adlibs going to an Adlibs aux, the hooks going to one or two Hook Auxes. Then I'll send each of those aux outputs to one main vocal aux so I can move the level all the vocals as a group without affecting sends or compression and stuff. On the main vocal aux is where I may put a mild d-esser and/or PSP Vintage Warmer. Then I'll have another two aux tracks for reverb and delay. This is where the Aux grouping of the ATA is confusing me.

If you notice my session, The only plugins causing latency are the PSP and the D-esser, which are both on the main vocal aux. Every other track in the session has no latency. Now I would have though the beat, verse, adlib, reverb, and delay auxes (which all have 0 latency) would be set to aux 1 in ATA and the vocal aux (which has 703 samples latency) would be set to aux 2. However, it doesn't work properly like this. The delay values come out just wrong. So what I did to get it to work what set the beat, verse, reverb, and delay auxes to aux 1, the adlibs aux to aux 2, and the vocal aux to aux 3. Now I don't see why ATA is seeing a difference between the adlib aux and the beat/verse auxes. Also, I have to set the level knob on the master to -75 to get it to read correctly. Any other level setting screws up some of the numbers. But in the screenie, everything is delayed properly due to the way I set it. So I can fool with it to get it to work, but if I can understand why these settings work, I can just get them right the first time without having to "fool" with them. Thanks!
