Why doesn't PT look for files in the session's Audio folder first?

I occasionally get bit by this and I'm looking for an explanation as to why PT behaves this way... If I copy a session folder (including audio & fade files), then launch the copy, all audio files are still from the original audio folder and not the new audio folder. Is there a good reason for this behavior? I'm sure that there is, I'm just curious as to what it might be...

-This happens because the Pro Tools session file references the the Disk Allocation destination(s) from the last time the session was saved.

-In other words, when you copy the Session folder to a new location (in the Finder) and open it, the Session will look for the files on the orignal drive.

But what's the reason for have PT behave this way? Wouldn't it be better to have PT look in the Audio Files folder first? In instances where you copy sessions in the finder it would seem to be yes, but there must be situations where this isn't the case, and I'm curious as to what those might be...

And, if I copy a session in the finder, open the copy, change it's disk allocation settings to the new disk, and reopen the copy, will it then use the copied audio files?

I do not know that answer.

-I was doing some experimenting and it looks like my Disk Allocation theory is incorrect. I was able to get a copy of the session to open and reference the audio files in the new location without being prompted with the "Where Is..?" dialogue.

Here is what I did:
-Copy (in the Finder) the session folder to a new location.
-Take the original session folder and change its location (drag onto the Desktop or into the Trash).
-Open the session file in the new location.

RESULTS:
-The copy of the session opened, referencing the audio at the new location.

-The Disk Allocation of the new session was still assigned to the orignal drive. Therefore, you will still have to go into the Disk Allocation window and manually change the Root Media Folder for your tracks.

Does this happen for you if you copy a session to a new drive/folder by using the "Save Copy In" with copy all fades/ audio media options checked from within ptools?
