Surround joystick panners
Hi.
Am just wondering what, if any, joystick panners are you guys using for PT? I have been using my console to pan in surround, but was wondering if there are any joystick panners for PT. Thanks! trip.

Re: Surround joystick panners
...and is it true the Digi (icon-style) joystick will NOT work at the same time as a Command-8?
Anyone here of this? |

Re: Surround joystick panners
[quoteWhat's the difference in the price of the 2? They look the same. the only difference is one is icon style. Do they both work with PT HD 7.3.1?
Thanks, Brandon [/QUOTE] One seems to be touch-sensitive. But they really look "similar" ;-) frank.

Re: Surround joystick panners
Hi guys.
thanks for the input. Brandon, the joystickes are actually made by the same company, JLcooper. that might explain a few things. Also, the Icon styled controller requires PT 7.2 or higher, whereas the MCS panner will work with TDM or HD systems with a required Midi kit. According to the tech specs anyway. Funny, they seem to work thru midi, something that did take me kinda by surprise. Would have figured they'd be USB. Also, they are a little pricey, but hey, i'll gladly pay if it means i dont have to mouse around so much. Or i might just pull out my old atari game console joystick and convince my clients i'm doing some 'subtle' panning. Thanks guys!

Re: Surround joystick panners
I was under impression that JL Cooper MCS-panner don't work with the current versions of Pro Tools (7.2 and 7.3). Or that at least it's not officially supported anymore. Is somebody still using it successfully? That would be great news.

Re: Surround joystick panners
bad jitter, you could be right. The tech specs for the MCS panner lists support up til 7.1, no mention of versions higher then that. But it could just be an out of date spec. (the tech specs page is copyrighted 2005) Pure speculation on my part.
Curiously, the Icon version only works with version 7.2 onwards. Perhaps the icon styled panner adresses some of the incompatibilty issues from 7.2 onwards? (if there were any that is) Maybe it introduces new features like a shiny new enclosure?

Re: Surround joystick panners
I use the panner on a Tascam US2400, and it used the MCS Panner profile, and when upgrading, works on the new Surround Panner profile. My guess is that the MCS SHOULD still work under the new profile.
