Default record enabling a track gets static hiss...?

002 Rack system on Mac OS x 10.4.7 dual 2.0 GHZ G5
any ideas on what is going on?

what kind of settings prefs do you need to know about.
what can i try to change with the clock settings.
i don't have any external midi timepiece type devices.. just the 002 rack and my g5

I believe LE systems can have different clock sources. Hit apple+2 (on the number pad, not the row above the letters). That should open the session setup window. There should be a drop-down menu with a couple of options in it (internal, AES/EBU, SPDIF...) Make sure "internal" is selected under clock source. If that doesn't work, go to your hardware setup. You should be able to change the clock source from there too.

You might also try to trash your prefs if you haven't already. Also trash the digi database folders on each of your drives. Make sure Protools is not running when you do this. After you're done, empty trash and restart.

After you've restarted and before you launch Protools, run disk utility and repair disk permissions on your mac hard drive.
