Hi Everyone,
I'm working on an atmos remaster for a series and I've been asked if I'd like to do any of the foreign languages. I've done some of that for commercial work but drama is obviously a different beast. I'll have the M&E and the full PT mix session, obviously. They'll be providing an edited and mostly cleaned stem for the dialogue, so everything will be timed and all that, though I imagine it'll still need a bit of RX here and there. But for those of you who do language versioning, I was just wondering about dialogue treatment. What's the typical approach? I was thinking it would be similar to ADR... rough it up a bit, low/highpass and add a mono reverb, so it sounds more like production dialogue? Are you referencing the production dialogue or are you just trying to get it to feel right to the visual? How specific do you get on the spaces or is it just broad strokes: Small room, large room, and then changing characterful rooms (ie. bathrooms, churches, etc.), sort of thing? I'm of course trying to get a sense of how long each episode will take, but given that they've been edited and I'm working off the filled M&E with access to the PT session, I'm assuming that it wouldn't be THAT long. Thanks in advance! Ryan
