Default Mastering From 001 to Sonic Solutions

Hey Digidesign lemme tell you me story...

I booked a mastering session at airshowmastering in springfield, a $150 an hour studio to master a three song demo, and used my PC Digi 001 LE Win98se system to bounce to disk. I asked the engineer if multiple mono .aif files would be okay on his Macintosh Sonic Solutions workstation, he said sure.

So i showed up to the session with two copies of the bounce files on seperate discs, thinking I had my bases covered. Well, Charlie Pilzer (the mastering engineer and I worked for an hour and a half, finally giving up, trying to get the dang files to play on his mac. Apparently the multiple mono bounce files do not have headers that contain information about the files.

You may want to fix this in upcoming versions. I never did get the mastering done that day, and I ended up borrowing his masterlink to get the material to him. I purchased a Tascam DA-45hr so I won't have this problem again, but you may want to tell your unsuspecting customers about the issue.

I know you need a program like "Mac Opener" on your PC to read cds that were burned on a mac, even if it is wav or aif files. That is because cdr is formatted for a mac. I assume this is also true when trying to open a cd burned on a PC with a Mac. As I exclusively use a PC, I dont know much about opening PC files with a MAC but here is a link to MacLink Plus, it seems to be the right program to do it- http://www.dataviz.com/products/maclinkplus/index.html

That may work, but the problem should not have to have some hack to handle it. These companies should make their formats completely accessable - especially high end audio programs. It may be sonic solutions problem too, but it looked like there wasn't enougn information in the file.

Another thing I didn't mention is that Quick time was able to play the audio files on the mac, but Charlie didn't have quick time pro so he couldn't do anything with them.

He did try using sound hack to fix the files to no avail.
