Default PT 8 is very slow!!!

hi.
i just upgraded to PT8 - i like the knew look, but i have to say:
the new pro tools is really slow (especially zooming in and out in the edit window and moving the cursor to different positions).
it takes for example seconds to move the cursor from the beginning of a track to the middleof it!
do you have the same problems??
any suggestions??

my rig:
PT8
HD 3 Accel
OS 10.5.5
RAM: 3.5 GB
CPU: Power Mac G5 Dual 2.5 Ghz

Same here! Changing the horizontal zoom with just 3 tracks takes almost a second.

DIGI - can we have a toggle to turn off the 16 bit overview, or whatever other thing is causing the huge slowdown? PT 7.4 worked instantaneously fast, and now it's unusable.

I have never once felt the need for more overview resolution and if that's the cause of the suggishness I'd love to turn it off.

G5 dual 2.5
5GB ram
OS 10.5.5 clean install
ATI video card with 128MB ram
HD3 w/192, 1622 I/O

Make sure that the new overviews aren't being recreated... check your Tasks Window. This may be a G5 issue though.

If you save the session in PT8 format, it shouldn't have to recalc the waveforms every time.

This seems to happen over time with my sessions. Zoom/Scroll slows down 'til it takes 2-3 seconds for a scroll to occur.

I reboot, then reload the same session and zoom/scroll goes back to normal for a while, so I don"t think it's the higher resolution waveforms.

No - it should only do it once for each audio file.. subsequent times you open the session they should be already rebuilt. Just wait for them all to be rebuilt.

I don't think it's the overview recreations that the op is suffering from. In general use the edit window is way slower than 7.4.2 on my mac. Mine's a G4 so I'll be imminently getting a mac pro in order to benefit from PT8!

ok, i understand, that's what i did - i wait until the waveform overviews are calculated, then i save my session and then i start to work - scrolling and zooming is so slow!! i can't really work with it - it takes 3 seconds to zoom in one step!!

How big is the current session you are working on?

I'm using an 8-core Mac Pro, and PT 7 was slow as molasses. I wiped my boot drive, upgraded to Leopard and installed PT 8, and it takes about 15 seconds to load PT. Depending upon the size of the session I'm loading, it takes anywhere from 5 seconds to about a minute. I'll check my various prefs to see if there's something else you may be doing that's slowing things down.
