Default Compact Control Surface

Any recommendations for a control surface that’s compact with pre roll and post roll buttons? Budget is $200

I don’t think are any control surfaces left in that price range. The Behringer X Touch surfaces are a bit over $400.

I know many like the Faderport.
I don't know how it integrates w/PT (HUI?).

FaderPort - PreSonus

Unless they are Eucon controllers, they’re all HUI controllers. And the Eucon controllers start at about $1200.

Yes. Eucon is pretty much king for PT from now on. As I understand it, not even the old Command|8 (midi protocol) will work on future versions of PT, at least not on Apple silicon.

I used C|8 for a couple of years, and it worked very well w/PT. Got it for $130. I have the Artist Mix now (Eucon), and I'm loving it. So much that I just bought a second one, second hand, $400, for a total of 16 faders.

But on windows, and macOS up to current, C|8 will work pretty good - and, I expect, a lot of other types of non-HUI, midi-protocol controllers.

BTW, I did try a Faderport 16 about a year ago (HUI), and the integration w/PT was horrendous, track names abbreviated to four(!) characters, only four plugin parameters visible at a time etc. All limitations of the HUI protocol, which I'm told is basically nineties-technology.

But that doesn't mean that the one-fader Faderport (sub $200) won't suit the OP's needs. Maybe Dave/Albee will chime in, he's recommended it before.

I have n Artist mix also and like it very much. I use it mainly for my remote recording gigs. I have have a Yamaha DM2000 which runs on HUI which I like a lot also.

Indeed, the little Faderport V2 works rather nicely(even better with neyrinck's V-Control software), but I don't think any of the mentioned hardware allows for pre/post roll enable. But I do think Avid Control on a tablet can do it

Bought C|8 the day one it became available. Great unit.

Don't say anything about prices, but I have spent more for flight case, couple of fader changes, and a spare power supply than the initial purchase price. Still, one of the best value hardware ever. That thing has seen hundreds of live gigs, money very well spent.

If you're okay with using the Artist Mix or Control (or even the older Euphonix branded units before Avid acquired Euphonix), then you can get a pretty clean specimen of either unit for about $300 today... especially the Euphonix ones.

I have a Euphonix MC Control and MC Mix and with latest Avid firmware and EuControl software and they're working great with my M1 Max Mac Studio and PT 2022.12 and other DAWs as well.

I ordered Faderport V2 and will buy neyrinck's v-control as well. The video of V-control sold me. While the software is not cheap, $200 for V-control or $50 per year. That with $200 for the faderport and it gets a poor man close to an AVID dock.

It works very well with AVID control on my iPad also.

I hope that will hold my interest until I can justify AVID dock with S1.

Thanks,
jab
