Default PT 9 on Macbook Pro Digi outs

Hey
Anyone had luck with using the optical out on Macbook Pros with Pro Tools. I know you can use them for playing DVDs 5.1 etc, but is it possible to select this as a 5.1 output from Pro Tools using the digital OP found on headphone output? Just wanna check before I buy the converter cable.
Thanks

I'm not entirely sure, but I doubt it - whenever I've mixed just on my MBP, PT has only seen a stereo output. Also remember, surround mixing capabilities in Pro Tools only come with PT HD or CPTK.
