Default Quicktime 7/Pro Tools 6.9 problem

So obviously quicktime 7 isn't compatible with PT 6.9. I didn't realize that and installed quicktime 7. When it didn't work, I tried manually uninstalling it by trashing it and restarting. When I then tried to use a quicktime 6.5.2 installer, I was told that I couldn't install because a newer version already exists. Then I found apple's 6.5.2 reinstaller which uninstalls version 7 and reinstalls version 6.5.2. That told me that a valid version of quicktime could not be found and so therefore couldn't reinstall. All this while I could open a movie in quicktime version 7.

So I can't install the older version because a newer version already exists, but I can't uninstall the newer version because it doesn't exist? I've tried using the version 7 installer again but get the same results.

Anyone had this problem? Suggestions?

Thanks,

Greg

A couple of suggestions you might try. Restore your system from the backup you have already made.

If by trashing you mean QTPlayer.app . . . you might extract that from the installer package with Pacifist - put it back where it was and then you could probably run the un-installer.

Barring that I'd try deleting the Library/Receipts for QuickTime and then installing 6.5.x.

If that doesn't do it, Go into the System/Library/Quicktime and delete everything in there.

Then there's System/Library/Frameworks . . . and you might have to delete the System/Library/Extensions.kextcache and .mkext

I'd go slowly and copy these things before just trashing them.

1. Do a Finder find (cmd-f) on your boot drive for all files with "Quicktime" in the name.
2. Drag all results to the trash
3. Restart and download Quicktime 6.5.2
4. Run the QT 6.5.2 installer
