Hi
I have been a member of the forum for 20 years. That seems impossible!
I started with a Teac two track and my last setup I used a Yamaha DMXR100
I really enjoyed the ride. !0 years ago my wife was killed by a drunk driver and with one salary I had to get a real job. I drifted away until recently I found a bunch of old hard drives with all my work.

I'm going into the hospital this week for a Bone Marrow Transplant do to the cancer Iv'e had for two years Its supposed to put it in remission.
I'm going to take my MacBook Pro with me. I'll be there 21 days
I know everything had changed a lot
What I can I buy so I can work on projects without any hardware
If that's even possible.

Perhaps get a great set of headphones, a dedicated DAC (like me) and a external drive for the material.

Are there versions of PT that I can just have on my Mac without hardware

Sure. But PT today is subscription, Artist (cheap), Studio (Less cheap), and Intro (free). You just need a ilok account, and you can try them out; month at a time.

and you can use the cloud-based iLok Cloud service, so you won't need a dongle, just WiFi (altho the service CAN be iffy occasionally). Check any of your 3rd-party plugins for what kind of copy-protection they use and make sure you don't need any other dongles.

You shouldn't need any other hardware unless you're recording audio or MIDI (and you CAN use the built-in laptop mic and PT's MIDI keyboard [shift-K] if you have to - and if quality or detail isn't a rush).

and good luck with the treatment. You may not feel up to working for a few days or more after the initial treatment, but it will be good to focus on something else besides resting. Also, bring something you're comfortable cleaning/sterilizing the laptop with - they may want you to do that.
