In Pro Tools 11, I am staring at a file yet, the importer is not finding it. Any solutions? Thank you

Re: Importer Wont Find File despite me seeing it
We need more info like computer and operating system, where the file is (separate drive maybe?), etc. Without that we're working in a vacuum. Exactly where are you seeing the file - in the import dialog box, computer file system? If you're on a Mac and trying to import directly from an NTFS disk that can cause things to not work. If that's the case move the file to your PT drive and import from there.

Okay, Im using a Mac book Pro Retina, 15-inch, Early 2013 16 GB memory, on OSX 10.8.5. I am using Pro Tools 11 I am using a G-Drive to store my samples and the format is Mac OS Extended (Journaled) connection USB I am looking at the file on my External Hard Drive through my finder, but when I open the importer window and type the file name it doesn't show, forcing me to drag it in manually. Folders don't show up either. Also, yes, I can see the files in the importer window too, but when I type the name it totally disappears and nothing is shown. That is the issue. My workflow and speed depends on this function working as advertised. I can't move my entire hard drive. The importer sees nothing… Is this a bug? |

Re: Importer Wont Find File despite me seeing it
Ive been using pro tools since 2003, and this is the first time this has happened. Why would there be a search there if it doesn't work. Why can I search on my actual computer, but no on an external. My brain cannot compute like a computer so I cannot obviously point the importer to exact locations of files…? I thought there were pro tools staff members on this forum. It seems to always take months for things like this to get solved… I can't believe it...

Re: Importer Wont Find File despite me seeing it
Okay now I can search for FILE NAMES in the external, but I can't search for the folder in which the actual file is in. For example "HATS" Folder will not be found, but "hi-hat_01" will be found within that folder! something is definitely wrong. This happens on ALL MY external drives, just opened another drive out of the box, formatted it, and same thing happened!

Searching on a computer is one thing because you're using the computer's search engine. Searching inside an app like PT is different and who know what PT uses to do the search. But like I said I never searched - I always put in a location to look; never had PT try and find the file itself. Sorry but you're going to have to get used to this way of working. |
