Default Re: Pro Tools 2020.12 M1 Mac Mini

bump to a somewhat old thread.....

lets say hypothetically i buy a new 16" MacBookPro when they come out sometime.... lets just say summer 2021 .... so lets assume

Big Sur
Apple silicon M1x chip....

assuming AVID ProTools Ultimate is still running under Rosetta at that time....

can i hope that AVID and ALL it's stock plugins (incuding ProCompressor, etc) should run maybe: decently? (as per this thread)

no VIs will be used. Just audio.

thanks.

I would bet on that. Or at least there won't be a native Apple Silicon version by then. A leak from a source that's hit and miss is saying it could be late this year or into next before the M1x generation of Macbook Pros because of LED display shortages. We'll see. If it were a summer launch they would be tooling and ramping up. No reports that they are just yet.

If that happens and the launch is delayed into fall they could ship with Monterey installed (they have a trademark on that name, it would be MacOS 12). It will be a couple more weeks until us mortals find out what's new in Monterey but I'd bet dollars to doughnuts something in Pro Tools won't be happy. Unless by chance we see a native version by then.

On the bonus side reliable leakers have indicated 10 core CPU, 8 high perf 2 low energy; 16 and 32 core GPU and up to 64GB of RAM. I'd say that's stout enough for most tasks.
