Default Capacity-Issue on AVID S1

Hello community, hello Eddie!

I have an issue with one of my S1. 4 out of 8 faders work against me. I think this might be a capacity calibration issue, at least it feels exactly like it. I'll write faderautmations but the console would often switch between read and write nevertheless my fingers stay on the faders. I've managed to exclude my switch, ethernet cable and power supply from beeing the source of my troubles. Both my S1s are 2 Years old, the second one still works smooth like on day one. Unfortunately this is nothing that just occured, but gets gradually worse. At the beginning of this phenomenon I thought it might be due to dry hands. But now it's obvious smth's wrong here.

EDIT: Is there a way to calibrate the capacity on the S1?

I'm on PT2024.10, WIN11 Version 10.0.22631 Build 22631, Intel i9 13900K - Issues also occured on WIN10

This sounds like dirty touch tracks. Try compressed air first, hold at one end and a vac at the other. If this doesn't work try a little Deoxit Fader F5

Great tip Eddie, I will try that with my S3 and Dock.
Sometimes, I feel that it is my fingers are too dry and not providing the capacitance required properly. Also had wondered if this were adjustable.

Thanks for your quick response Eddie!
I tried compressed air and vac, but it didn't fix the issue. The console is two years old, non smoker studio and there is a cover over the units if they are unused. I know dust is coming into the units anyway, but I doubt it's soley dirt. I've got an oldish ICON controller around, you can manage cap senitivity for the faders and it does make sense bc oxidation, degradation of materials, microscratches etc. changes capacitive qualitys of the fadercaps over time. I don't want to spray anything in there for now. Is there the possibility to get spare fadercaps? The worst two faders have caps on them that come off verry very easly. The other fadercaps are not coming off with the force i'm feeling confident to apply, so I've only gotten them two off to see if they work properly whilst touching the metal ride... And they do!
Another question for future spray actions: If I open the S1, could I take off the top plate in order to have a closer look to the faders, or is the plastic top of the S1 glued/clipped/etc. to the faders? Thanks a lot!

If you take the fader caps off and they then work, it could be a grounding issue in your room. Have you tried touching something that is grounded and see if they work better? Taking of the top plate doesn't get you anymore closer to the faders. The slot at the top is the only way in.

I don't know Eddie. Since it's degrading over time, plus it's worse if the motors have to follow automation and get intercepted by the capacity sensors compared to if there is a plane session with nothing written yet .. i will try spraying something inside my 2Year old faderbank, but I'd like to point out that i have never had to do anything like that to any of my motorfaders in my whole life, period... It really seems somethings off with the design here..
