Installation DVD Scratched - What to do?
Hey guys, just wondering if it's possible to download the installation DVD somewhere. I can install PT 8.0 but it fails to install the creative collection due to a large scratch in the DVD it would seem. I tried to back up the disk with IMGBURN to save a copy, but it reported a read error at 33% so I can only assume the DVD is damaged. I wanna reinstall to a new OS so it's really important that I find a way around it.

Re: Installation DVD Scratched - What to do?
I've had this twice in the past month or two.
10 minutes into the install you get a "cyclic redundancy error" and then it exits. As a dealer I have access to downloads for everything, but it takes a few hours to get it. Those cardboard cases for PT really suck! As for you, you likely won't get any help until tomorrow. Digi should be able to give you a download installer. Check your MyDigi account download section to see if you've already got one.

Well my little hardware tester scuffed the disk up good. I tried to reinstall but the disk was ruined. I found a solution "google is your friend" for the scratched disk that worked. Get a QTip and toothpaste. Put the toothpaste on the QTip and rub gently over the scratch until they buffed out. Wash with warm water and soap. Hope this helps. Beats waiting for a new disk.

Thanks guys! Never used mydigi before to be honest, and after logging in I got no results, no downloads, no nothing! So I guess I'll have to resort to toothpaste! Hope to god that works!

There are some places -- used CD stores that have polishing machines. They use them to take the scratches out of the used CDs and used games before the resell the. It'll cost you a couple bucks and your disk will look like glass again. Call around.

Re: Installation DVD Scratched - What to do?
Some people report using RAIN-X on scratched CDs with great sucess. I've tried it on skipping Audio CDs and suprisingly enough most of the time it helped. If you have really deep damage than its unlikely to help.
The Avid store has replacement DVD's also
