Default simultaneous recording..........Please help me!

Lets say i want to record the drums and the guitar at the same time. Is there a possible way to set it up where each drum mic has its own track and the guitar has its own track? So another words after recording I have a snare track, tom track, bass drum track, cymbal track etc....... Also a guitar track. If this is possible i would really like to know how because it would make things much easier on me. Instead of having to get all the levels down before we record we can record and then go back and mix the drums afterwards. Any suggestions or anyone that knows please help me out. I'm new to this. Oh yeah i almost forgot. I am running the digi001 rack. With protools le 6.4 on a windows xp pro. Thanks

Sure you can.

you might need extra mic preamps. Do you have a mixer?

Have you read any of the 001 documentation at all?
The Quick Start Guide has a good deal of info on connectivity... even has diagrams.

If you're lacking documentation, see the links at the top and bottom of the DUC.

Yes i have a mixer........For each channel that i use there is an output on the back side of the mixer that. Should i go into the mixer than use that output on the mixer to go to the digi 001 rack?

Ahh. Yep, you can use em all.
Theoretically at the moment, I could record 18 Audio tracks simultaneously on my 001; though ive yet to do so.

The 001 by itself only has 8 physical out-of-the-box inputs. I have added an ADAT M-Audio 8 track I/O interface, which added 8 more. Total to 16.
Then I have a synthesizer that plugs directly into the SPDIF on the back of the 001, which adds 2 more inputs. Total = 8 + 8 + 2 = 18.

yes.

you could go directly into the 001 for the first two mics and then use the mixer's direct outs for inputs 3-8.

setup 8 tracks in PT. give them all different inputs. arm them. record on them. rock out with your sock out.
