Question Trying to understand clocking?

Could someone try and help me understand word clocks. I'm using a digi 192 which i understand has got a clock in. A member on here is selling a big Ben which I might be interested in

What I want to know is will the big Ben work with my HD system on windows and will it make a big improvement to the sound

Im not to sure what a word clock does exactly I've read some stuff on google but it all sounds very technical when it talks about jitters etc, is there any one who could explain this in a less technical manner

Thanks in advance

Word Clock is just a digital sample clock.
Most Pro level equipment has Word Clock so the entire studio can be syncronized at the bit level.
The master clock source should be able to drive all of you devices so that any delays are minimized.
The Big Ben has a good rep. and as I remember SPDIF outputs for any equipment you have with SPDIF only.
Generally I would expect some improvement over built in clocks, depends on your setup.

Well I brought the Big Ben I'm hoping I'm gonna hear/benefit from a difference. I won't be able to connect it up yet as its at my sisters who lived near the seller. So who can tell me if I'm going to hear a difference with this connected to my 192 analog or have I wasted my money :-/

Lots of people used the Big Ben with the 192's and felt that it improved the sound. It's been a popular combination. So you may find that you like it.
